8 Stressful Video Games That Make You Sweat
5. Fire Emblem: Three Houses
The story of Fire Emblem: Three Houses has you play as Byleth Eisner, a mercenary who pulls a routine job that went just a little too perfectly, and now finds herself (there is a male option for Byleth but...c'mon) teaching at a military academy in the country of Fodlan - a nation you find is teetering on the brink of a chaotic succession crisis for the throne.
As the story progresses, you are forced to choose between the three heirs to the throne, the eponymous three houses, all of whom have equally valid but wildly different ideas for the country once they're in charge. Once you make your choice, you must stick with the house you've aligned with and brutally slaughter your competition.
Sure would royally suck, then, if the game spent the first half of the game getting you really attached to all of the children you teach at the academy, including the ones you will have to inevitably kill when they choose their sides.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses holds the player's feet to the fire in a way most other games are far too scared to even attempt. There is no magical third way out. Make your choice, stick with it, and see it through.
And try to live with yourself afterwards.
