8 Terrible Games With INCREDIBLE Bosses

6. Bolverk - Devil May Cry 2

Resident Evil 6 Haos
Capcom

Devil May Cry 2 is an unfortunate outlier among the mainline series, in that it's the only one most fans don't really care for.

Rushed out less than 18 months after the original game by an inexperienced dev team, DMC2 was pilloried for its drastically reduced difficulty compared to its predecessor, and the baffling decision to make protagonist Dante more stoic and serious.

It was basically the exact opposite of what most fans wanted from a Devil May Cry sequel, but there are still a few engaging boss fights to be found throughout, chief among them the two battles with Bolverk.

Right from the jump, Bolverk's design and lore are awesome - he's a spear-totting skeletal demonic warrior who vows vengeance against Dante after being previously defeated by his father Sparda.

Oh, and Bolverk has two wolf phantom companions, Freki and Geri, along for the ride too.

These fights have something that most of DMC2 doesn't - atmosphere and stakes, ensuring that for a few brief, blissful minutes, you can forget that the rest of the game is, well, not good.
