8 Times Gaming Critics Got It Completely Wrong

6. Street Fighter 5's Lack Of Content

For a series known for its brutal beatdowns, it was actually the lack of content for Street Fighter 5 on launch that was the biggest gut punch for fans of the series. Dropping without a story mode and lacking even basic fighting game features, fans were utterly dismayed that this full-priced title offered such a barebones experience right out of the gate.

It was entirely unclear as to why the game had dropped in such an unfinished state, and the game looked utterly pitiful standing alongside its predecessor Street Fighter 4. Yet Critics, maybe thanks to a few blows to the head, were utterly loopy about this game, praising its changes to the core gameplay and pushing it to the moon as THE fighting game everyone had to own.

Now it's true that the mixup to the fighting formula on offer here was a step in the right direction, but when that's ALL THE GAME HAD GOING FOR IT ON LAUNCH how the hell did it score so highly? As things stand today, the game is in much better shape with a thriving community, but for a while it felt as if reviewers were time travellers, commenting on what the game would become a year after launch rather than what we were delivered.
