Kentucky Route Zero is a five-part point-and-clink adventure game released between 2013 and 2020, and while its deeply surreal narrative and punchy writing make it a must-play, it's further elevated by a totally unforgettable art style.

Kentucky Route Zero takes the angular, polygonal imagery of old-school point-and-click games and shines it through the prism of David Lynch, resulting in one of the most uniquely moody video games ever made regardless of genre.

As an exercise in meaningful minimalism, this game is near-unmatched, taking simple blocks and shapes that almost look like they're made out of paper. and wringing tremendous feeling from them.

The visuals work in harmonious concert with the gorgeous ambient soundtrack and utterly hypnotic - if tricksy - story.

That the game managed to keep its fanbase rapt for the better part of a decade despite some brutal gaps between installments is all the more a testament to how uncommonly seductive it is.
