8 Underrated Video Games With STUNNING Art Styles
2. Thumper
Thumper is one of the most metal video games ever made, both literally and figuratively.
This intensely trippy rhythm game marries pulse-pounding music with a singular aesthetic defined by mechanical objects and abstract, tendrilled creatures, which creator Brian Gibson has collectively dubbed "a product of madness."
The appropriately monikered developer Drool did a fantastic job making Thumper simultaneously feel like a trip to hell and something so slickly gorgeous it's impossible to look away.
The flip-side of the bold, unique approach to Thumper's visuals, however, is that it made a game situated within an already-niche genre even more of a tricky sell to the general public.
With its fast pace, hard-going score, and mesmerising-yet-intimidating visual style, Thumper isn't for the faint of heart, but those willing to take the plunge will almost certainly fall madly in love with it.
And what better time to hop on the Thumper train, given that Gibson's similarly beautiful spiritual successor Thrasher is due out before year's end.
