8 Underrated Video Games With STUNNING Art Styles
1. Madworld
The "realistic muddy brown" aesthetic was incredibly overdone in action games throughout the late 2000s and into the early 2010s, so what a breath of fresh air it was for a game as vibrant as Madworld to come along and say balls to all that.
This gory Wii hack-and-slasher is very clearly inspired by the graphic novels of Frank Miller - especially Sin City - adopting a high-contrast, thick-lined black-and-white aesthetic distinguished by plentiful splashes of crimson red blood.
It'd be easy for such an approach to come off as juvenile or self-consciously edgy, but fused with PlatinumGames' signature penchant for crunchy combat, it made for one of the most satisfying and underrated actioners of its era.
15 years after its release, Madworld sadly still remains trapped on the Wii, despite the game's cult of fans who would love to see it get the nifty remaster treatment. Make it happen already.
