8 Upcoming Star Wars Video Games That Have Fans Excited

Thank the maker!

Ubisoft/Lucasfilm

When it was announced that EA had partnered with Lucasfilm and were given the exclusive rights to make Star Wars games in 2013, many fans were disappointed, and rightly so.

Unfortunately, each title was met with controversy after controversy, such as 2015's Star Wars: Battlefront skipping the single-player campaign and having a rather barebones multiplayer experience, or the sequel's infamous loot box scandal. Still, things weren't all bad under EA, from Jedi: Fallen Order garnering high praise from fans and critics alike, to the eventual success of Battlefront II after years of brilliant updates.

Even so, with only one publisher at the helm of the Star Wars video game output, fans felt starved of games set in the galaxy far far away, with EA having released less games in ten years than Lucasfilm released in 2005 alone.

Perhaps Lucasfilm realised their mistake of handing over rights to the most popular IP ever to one publisher when they announced they wouldn't be extending EA's exclusivity rights in 2021. Finally, fans can be excited to see different studios' takes on Star Wars, and there certainly is a lot to look forward to.

8. Star Wars: Hunters

Zynga

Initially revealed in 2021, Star Wars: Hunters is an arena battle game for mobile and Nintendo Switch. Set on the brand new planet of Vespaara, players can choose from the likes of lightsaber-wielding droid J-3DI and Wookiee warrior Grozz in their attempts to emerge victorious against rival competitors.

The game is in early access in some countries, such as Australia and India, though there has not been a full release as of yet. Reactions to Hunters have been mostly positive, with there being compliments on the fun gameplay and vivid art design. Still, players have voiced their concerns about the performance and many bugs in the game. Luckily, Zynga - Star Wars: Hunters' developer - has released several updates patching these bugs, so hopefully the game will run smoothly upon its global release.

Originally, Star Wars: Hunters was meant to release in 2022, but was pushed back so Zynga could ensure they met fans' high expectations. At the moment, Hunters should see a full release before the end of the year, though there has not been any confirmation as to when exactly gamers can get their hands on the game.
