8 Upcoming Video Games You Are NOT Ready For

5. Sonic Frontiers

Listen, I'll be honest with you. I'm not the biggest fan of the Sonic franchise.

I've had my fingers burned too many times by the steaming piles of chunky piss that the IP has kicked out over the years, with Sonic '06, Rise of Lyric, and Sonic R being burned into my core life experiences as things I'd choose food poisoning over playing again.

And yet. Sonic Frontiers is looking and sounding pretty bloody good.

After a hands-on session with the game at EGX 2022, Scott Tailford couldn't contain how much he'd enjoyed the game to the extent that I almost got a moment-by-moment breakdown of the experience, and there's very little to hate about the improvements that have clearly been made by the devs. A better tracked homing attack, an attack that can be triggered even while running at full speed, and RPG-adjacent elements that allow players to upgrade and customize the abilities of Sonic.

Therefore we might be looking at a, dare I say it, a GOOD SONIC 3D GAME!? That alone is something that's giving me palpitations, and even though the Sonic fandom has been so ready for this to happen that they've rubbed themselves raw already, the general gaming community is simply unaware of what greatness is about to drop on them.

Potentially.
