8 Utterly Mind-Blowing Dark Souls Trilogy Fan Theories

1. The Ancient Dragon In Dark Souls 2 Was Created By Aldia

Players should remember a certain moment in Dark Souls 2, when after making it through the Dragon Shrine, they're met by an enormous dragon who speaks telepathically and gives you the Ashen Mist Heart, which allows you to enter the memories of long deceased giants. Though anyone who has attempted to fight the Ancient Dragon will likely have much more painful memories of the encounter…

There are a bunch of reasons, however, to believe that the Ancient Dragon isn't actually a dragon at all. King Vendrick's brother Aldia is known throughout the game for his bizarre experiments with various creatures: right before making it to the Dragon Shrine you've got to go through Aldia's Keep, which is filled with all sorts of caged experiments.

There's also a suspicious acid pit in the Keep beneath a bunch of giant corpses... which is important, because upon killing the Ancient Dragon, you receive a Giant Soul, not a Dragon Soul.

Seems suspect, doesn't it? Queen Nashandra also refers to the dragon as “a prop; a false deity” after you meet it. And besides, according to the first Dark Souls, all the Ancient Dragons are dead. All the more reason for a mad scientist to try and create one, right?
