8 Video Game Achievements That Straight Up Trolled You

Useless?! Worthless?! When did rewarding players get so harsh!?

Who doesn't love a good old video game achievement or trophy? That sweet pop and delectable chime when a video game rewards us for being good little pups and working hard on the title is like music to our ears and warm soup for the soul.

It tells us, "Hey buddy, you're a swell guy, have this digital badge of merit for those hundreds and hundreds of hours you've poured into this game. Sure, it's non-transferable and not really worth anything except bragging rights, and yeah I guess that time might have been better spent elsewhere in your life, and I know I know it is just simple emotional manipulation at the end of the day... but... well done?"

Obviously I'm being over-cynical here, but there is actually a darker side to video game trophies, because while also being a way to artificially pad a games overall runtime and often barring some players from ever seeing that 100 percent pop, some video games achievements will go out of their way to punish fans! From embarrassing them for their failures, to sarcastically dressing down their actions, these troll-like trophies are probably the last thing you'd want to display on your profile.

8. Getting Your Ass Kicked - God Of War (PS3)

The God Of War games have never been the easiest of rides for players. Around nearly every corner there's an entire pantheon of other Gods with anger issues and hordes of foes right out of fables for you to batter the ever-loving piss out of. You might end up getting your bald bonce rocked more than once across your time with the franchise.

Well, fret not friends, because even in your moments of abject failure the devs decided that instead of a helping hand and a comforting slap on the back, that they would instead kick sand in your face and stab you in the back instead by continually rewarding you with humiliating achievements designed to troll you hard.

From mocking you for grabbing health while at maximum HP, to everyone's least favourite trophy, "Getting your ass kicked", which will only pop if you die multiple times in a row in the same area. Offering us a chance to lower the difficulty was bad enough, but to cement the point with this trophy? Come on man.
