8 Video Game Crossovers That Made You Say WHAT?!
3. Any Video Game/Food Crossover
I think it goes without saying, but the most Brechtian moment one can have when playing a video game is when real-world companies stick their smell old todger into the mix and wipe their oils all over the previously lovely pixels.
In these moments we totally detach from our escapism to either cringe into the fetal position or laugh to ourselves at the sheer absurdity we're witnessing, and it just keeps on happening. Noctis telling us how good Cup Ramen is, Pizza Hut serving up a slice of pain in Monster Hunter Frontier with a Pizza based weapon, Monster Energy drink giving the go-ahead for their beverages to turn your piss into bioweapons in Death Stranding, it seems that you can never escape the grasp of consumerism.
While most are derided by audiences as try-hard moments so blunt it's like trying to use a flip flop as a surgical knife, there are actually some crossovers with food and drinks that ended up being rather tasty, which is somehow even weirder!
Take for example Everquest II which buddied up with Pizza Hut to offer in-game ads that let you order pies through the game without having to stop playing. I know that on paper that sounds like a gross Wall-E world but you have to admire the sheer audacity of making "Eat. Play. Sleep. Repeat" a real thing for a moment.
