8 Video Game Easter Eggs That Smashed The Fourth Wall

2. Scanning Agent 47's Barcode In Real Life

Everyone playing a Hitman game has wondered at some point; what would happen if you scanned his iconic barcode in real life? Would the scanner just overload and blow up in your hand? Would it point you to a site where you could buy a Hitman clone of your own, complete with subline gun and fibre-wire skills that make him as effective at slicing bread as he is at strangling people? Or, erm, how about a drawstring bag designed to hold a pair of dildos? No, seriously, that's actually it. Back in 2011, a plucky reddit user converted the barcode on the back of Agent 47's head and discovered it led to an Amazon page for "Drawstring Double Dong Dildo Bag in Starry Night Blue". Unsurprisingly, Agent 47's employer, the International Contract Agency (or more likely Square Enix) pulled a few strings (not the ones on the dildo bag) to stop Agent 47 becoming the laughing stock of the web and stepped in. Today, if you type 47's barcode into the UPC Database, you get directed to 'Agent 47', who is 183cm tall, weighs 90kg, and was 'issued' in the United States.
