8 Video Game Endings That Had More Questions Than Answers

5. Mass Effect 3

We all know what people think about Mass Effect 3's ending. After years of buildup, with two amazing games as foundation points for what could have been one of video game's defining trilogies, and some seriously misguided patching that revealed a big old problem in how Mass Effect 3 was released: the general consensus is that it's very bad.

And whilst that might or might not be true depending on how desperately you want to cling on to Shepard's pride, the fact of the matter is we're left with so many open ended threads that it's hard to know what to think about it all really.

What exactly happens if you join organic and synthetic life? Do we just get green eyes and carry on as normal? Does choosing the destroy option render biotics void? Will we ever get to see a somewhat happy future, or is this all we're left with? Did Bioware know how angry this would make everyone?

Whilst a little ambiguity and pessimism can work a treat, ME3 suffered at the hands of all options being essentially the same choice when boiled down to their core: and none of them were the universe-saving, world-defining Shepard-as-saviour fans wanted to see. Intentional or not, the true repercussions are never going to be uncovered unless we get another true Mass Effect game, which doesn't look likely after Andromeda.
