8 Video Game Franchises That Do The Same Thing Every Time
5. Relying Heavily On Outdated Comedy - Borderlands
When Borderlands made its first debut it was a breath of fresh air in the FPS genre, not only being a Sci-Fi with absolutely ridiculous weapons, but the story, characters and comedy were all just as absurd.
The second game in the series expanded on this and took the humour in a more internet/meme culture direction, which worked great for the time.
But it's really quite outdated now, and the Pre-Sequel and Borderlands 3 haven't really done too much to take the series somewhere new other than amping things up. The comedy still feels like it belongs in the early 2010s, and while the gameplay is still fun it is starting to get a bit repetitive and could do with some new direction.
Hopefully the next instalment will shake things up enough that it feels like a proper sequel rather than just the same thing over again in a new location. Borderlands isn't the fresh new IP that it used to be, and Gearbox can't continue to rely on the same approach of just being the bombastic shooter to pull in fans.
