8 Video Game Moments That Will Be Mind-Blowing With The Oculus Rift
3. Climbing The Dragon In Dragons Dogma
Anyone who has played Dragons Dogma recalls what it was like at the games climax; the player, forced to cling onto the tail of the games reptilian antagonist, slowly inches their way up its spine as the dragon swoops under bridges and between narrow cliff faces. The player has to cling on for dear life as the dragon banks on its side and flies into swarms of harpies. Finally, after creeping their way up the dragons spine, the player is able to stab it through the heart at which point they are hurled from its back and begin to freefall through the air, as the dragon swoops and turns, opening its jaws wide to swallow the player whole as they fall. https://www.youtube.com/watch?x-yt-ts=1422503916&v=zK3zT4VJcTc&x-yt-cl=85027636&feature=player_detailpage#t=833 As wonderful as it would be to recreate the Shadow Of The Colossus-esque monster climbing mechanic from the game itself, controlling characters in VR with a keyboard and mouse or game controller is often more taxing than it is on a television or monitor. However, this part of Dragons Dogma lasted no more than five minutes and was basically a playable cutscene more than part of the game in its own right but, using a virtual reality headset, gamers would be hard-pressed to find a segment in a fantasy game to give them a greater feeling of power and heroism.
