For any gamer who has played one of the many Pokémon games in the last nineteen years, the wouldnt it be great if Pokémon were real? conversation has probably cropped up amongst them and their friends at some point. It doesnt take a genius to figure out the appeal of travelling the world collecting hundreds of cute, friendly pets and becoming more powerful by defeating fellow Pokémon trainers. A lot of games with character customisation and silent protagonists are designed to make the player feel as if they are in the main characters shoes. Eliminating the main character entirely and putting the players themselves into roles like that of the Pokémon trainer is the next logical step. Of course, one of the appeals of video games as a medium is how amazing the world-building often is. Pokémon is just one of many games with a world that would be exciting to step into. Others would include Final Fantasy VIII, Remember Me and The World Ends With You and dozens - if not hundreds - of others. However, the appeal of actually throwing Pokéballs, watching your Pokémon evolve before your eyes and having a Pokédex that the player can hold up and scroll through puts it at the top of this particular list.
