8 Video Game Monsters That Were Absolutely Terrifying (Until You Saw Them)
6. The Xenomorph - Alien: Isolation
The Alien may just be the single most iconic sci-fi character design in the history of cinema, and provided you're already scared by its appearance in any medium, the Isolation version does its job too.
However, in service of giving you some breathing room when going place to place, the way the Xeno animates tends to be more human than it's ever been on the silver screen. Whilst you see its vibrations in ventilation shafts above and all around you, hear it hissing as you slowly make your way around the Nostromo, the second you see it moving... yeah, it's not the best.
Considering the serpentine, slithering nature of its cinematic counterpart, I expected the game version to be sitting, waiting for me on ceilings, to literally come around the inside wall of a corner right when I was about to get a full view into the next room - anything that replicated its sporadic motions in the films.
Instead - and in gameplay terms, this was totally fine - we got what looked like a man in an Xenomorph costume, awkwardly prancing around before occasionally getting a gallop on and chasing you down. A far cry from the "perfect killing machine" you may have expected.
