8 Video Game Monsters That Were Absolutely Terrifying (Until You Saw Them)
3. Big Daddys - Bioshock
I wish, I WISH fighting or interacting with the Bioshock's Big Daddys (how weird is that to spell? Big Daddys, Big Daddies?) actually lived up to both the box art and their first appearance in the game.
Remember the first time you saw the thing in motion? A huge, hefting half-man, half-machine force of will, lumbering its way around the underwater city of Rapture, obliterating a threatening NPC and saving one of the Little Sisters.
How in the blue hell were we going to contend with that?!
The drill, the stature, the fact its mind didn't seem to have too much of a conscience outside of preternatural protection, when an in-game one came round the corner you braced for impact... only for it to butt into you repeatedly, until you killed it.
Like some overgrown moth in a helmet, there remains no real strategy to taking these things down. Instead you fire, get hit, heal, move a little, get hit, fire, repeat - it's truly testament to how awesome their character design is, that it overshadowed such terrible implementation.
