8 Video Game Movie Adaptations That Were Better Than We Remember
5. The Matrix: The Path Of Neo (PS2/XBOX)
It almost didn’t seem possible to make a successful Matrix rendition after Enter The Matrix gave us a storyline and two characters we genuinely didn’t care about.
Then The Path of Neo came out and all of a sudden the promise to play as the heroic techno-Jesus became a red-pill reality. The game follows the titular hero from an Office-scuttling weakling, all the way to Goku in a trench coat and it was everything we’d ever wanted.
Reliving iconic sequences from the films such as the famous lobby shootout or the chateau stairwell fight were highlights in this criminally underrated game.
It did get silly towards the end when the final Smith vs. Neo battle incorporated a sequence where the player had to fight a Voltron-like Giant Smith made of hundreds of Smiths. But before then the game stayed so true to the films it's a forgivable, and even accepted sidestep.
Repeat plays of this game still hold up. The game literally levels Neo up, much like the movies do. Once Neo “dies” and is resurrected the gamer is given the god-like abilities of the hero and thus even more fun begins.
