8 Video Game Remasters We DEMANDED (Then Instantly Regretted)

4. Silent Hill HD Collection

Gta definitive edition
Konami

So we begin this entry with a question: "When is a remaster not a remaster?"

And the answer, as confusing as it might first sound, is "When it's the Silent Hill HD Collection", as despite being marketed as being a remaster of Silent Hill 2 and 3 (My kingdom for Silent Hill 1!) was actually a near one hundred percent remake of these two games.

Now I hear you cry "Why would Konami hire developers Hijinks to fully recreate two of the most well-loved horror video games of all time?" well my friend, the answer to THAT question is that Konami, in their infinite wisdom had commissioned a remaster of two games that they had lost the source code for. That's right, they didn't have the original framework to give to the new devs and so they pretty much had to make both titles from the ground up!

Is it any wonder then that the games feel so slightly off? Like it's some sort of uncanny valley of video gaming, where your actions lag behind your inputs, where enemy AI seems to have to load information before kicking into gear, and of course where there's no !*$% fog in a game so well-known for it that it's almost like it's a part of the central cast.

Yes, that's right, the thick fog that blankets Silent Hill was nowhere to be found in the original release of the HD Collection, meaning you could see all the nasty draw distance issues, pop-in, and of course enemies that now look like they've had their action canceled in the Sims and are just waiting around like absolute lemons.

Good stuff.
