8 Video Game Trophies Totally Based On Luck
1. Ascending The Mountain - Returnal
Now of course, there needed to be at least one Roguelike on here and there was no better fit for the top spot than Sony’s first-party PS5 title, Returnal. With so many trophies on its list being locked to the luck of the draw, half the list could honestly feature here, but for the sake of it, we’ll go with Ascending the Mountain.
Simply as it seems to be the rarest trophy to earn at the time of writing, Ascending the Mountain requires the player to finish the Crimson Wastes survey. This requires the collection of every Xenoglyph Cipher, Scout Log, Xeno-archive and to clear the Containment Area. But thanks to each run being randomly generated, there is no clear guide to finding all this.
Unlike every other Sony first-party title of late, this makes Returnal a surprisingly hard game to platinum. With it having no save system and locking players in for hours as they control Selene and try to escape the alien world she’s trapped in.
To earn this one is not only a badge of honour, but proof that most trophy hunters have too much time on their hands.
