8 Video Games Fans Didn't Deserve
1. The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker
1998 - Ocarina of Time. The first Zelda on N64. Young Link and Adult Link save Hyrule through a time-travel narrative.
Fans: Innovative! Masterpiece!
2000 - Majora's Mask. Focused on a surreal plot with emphasis on side-quests, looking and playing similar to its predecessor. Whilst only Young Link is playable, the darker tone delivers a mature game.
Fans: Innovative! Spooky masterpiece!
Also 2000 - Nintendo debuts a tech demo of Adult Link and Ganondorf's climactic fight from Ocarina of Time, promising a more realistic Zelda game.
Fans: Innovative! The future is here!
2002 - The Wind Waker: Link is a child the entire game, and it looks like a cartoon.
Fans: Wait! Where's the dark and realistic Zelda game the tech demo promised?!
Define irony: To create a more balanced style, Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild implemented The Wind Walker’s cel-shading with just a touch of the more realistic design from Twilight Princess.
Furthermore, due to its dusk-heavy lighting, Twilight Princess has not aged as well as Wind Waker. Like, whatsoever.
We can somewhat forgive fans in light of the 2000 tech demo, but ultimately, Wind Waker is a clear inspiration on its own series (and Zelda-honoree, Okami).
