7. The End - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
The Metal Gear Solid series is just as famous for its boss fights as it is for its awesomely convoluted, goofy approach to storytelling. There is however, one particular boss in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater that made us want to punch series' creator Hideo Kojima right in the groin. Big Boss is put in a sniping battle against The End - an elderly dude whose sole purpose in life is to shoot things through the scope of his rifle. Like most old folks, he spends the majority of his time taking naps and casually being racist (we may have made up that last part out of spite). The battle takes place over several large areas. The End has a deep bond with nature (as well as the parrot on his back) and uses this to conceal himself within the environment, making him very hard to find even when using all of the gadgets at Snake's disposal. It's not completely hopeless though, as his location is briefly displayed on the map when he fires his rifle. You'll have a moment to get a few shots in before he throws a flash-bang and flees to another position. Doing this is harder than it sounds though, as The End uses tranquilliser darts that make Snake's hands shake much more than usual. Fighting him is a long and arduous affair largely consisting of healing and running from area to area waiting to get shot in the face. It's a battle of wits that you'll most likely lose without looking up tips online. It's enough to inspire rage-quitting the game, and we actually highly recommend doing this as leaving the fight for more than a week will cause The End to die of old age in real time. Alternatively, there's an opportunity to kill him before the battle even takes place with a well-placed sniper-shot from afar, although there is no honour in either of these options, but we really don't care.
