8 Video Games We All Gave Up On (Thanks To One Level)

6. Monsoon - Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

This Raiden-centric MGS spin-off by Platinum Games was a huge critical and commercial success when it launched in 2013. And with good reason, too. It's a fun, frantic and highly polished entry in the hack 'n slash genre. Frankly, if you don't enjoy cutting enemies up into thousands of tiny pieces in slow motion there's something wrong with you. Its combat system gives a plethora of options to the player, but mastering the parry system is essential to survival. Pulling this off requires moving the analog stick in the direction of the incoming attack and pressing the attack button when it strikes your sword. Timing is tricky, and successfully blocking a complicated string of attacks requires lightning-fast reflexes. The game's eighth boss Monsoon really puts your parrying skills to the test. He attacks mostly in combos, so failing to parry one move will cost poor old Raiden dearly - stunning him and allowing Monsoon to unleash a flurry of unblockable moves. Beating Monsoon is a challenge for newcomers and veterans alike. He's a nasty difficulty spike in a game that was already damn difficult. There's no shame in admitting defeat, giving up and playing something else that doesn't make you feel like a hopeless failure. Ok, maybe there's a little shame in it...

When I'm not playing games, I'm probably either writing about them somewhere or singing stupid songs inspired by them. Or eating pizza.
