8 Video Games In Desperate Need Of A Remaster
6. Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver
The Legacy Of Kain series is split between its Blood Omen games and Soul Reaver games, but if one were to choose between the two it would be Soul Reaver which takes the prize. The first Blood Omen was a top-down 2D dungeon crawler with a distinctly retro feel, and Blood Omen 2 was an uninspired hack-and-slasher which failed to innovate.
The Soul Reaver games, on the hand, were both very solid action adventure titles which competently balanced both combat and puzzling. Its setting was the pinnacle of gothic design (apt considering it's set in the land of NosGOTH), and its story of infighting amongst a vampiric brotherhood had a lot more depth than most video game stories of its day.
When vampire lieutenant Raziel seemingly surpasses his master Kain, he is disfigured, condemned to death and cast into the Lake Of The Dead. He is then resurrected as a wraith by The Elder God, assured that in pursuing and succeeding in his revenge against Kain, the land of Nosgoth will be freed from corruption and decay. Across the two games, the player traverses everything from verdant forests and lakes to towering gothic cathedrals and ruined cities. The spectral realm, a parallel plane of existence which Raziel can shift between, will feel eerily familiar to anyone who has played Shadow of Mordor or its sequel.
Truly underrated gems of both the PS1 and PS2, it would be a pleasure to explore a reimagined Nosgoth and relive Raziel's tragic quest for revenge.
