8 Video Games That Mocked Themselves

Now depending on your age, memes are either the funniest thing since the dawning of mankind or the most cringe-worthy low-effort attempts at comedy that actually end up killing the very concept.

As a living meme myself, I kind of have to hope and pray that people see the former in me rather than the latter, but even I have to acknowledge that things can hit maximum cringe at a moment's notice.

Yet you know who absolutely loves a good meme? Drinkbox Studios, the marvelous minds behind the almighty Guacamellee series, who absolutely slathered their original title in billboard memes, providing simplistic jokes with their own unique spice.

However, some players really didn't like these peppered through their game and took to forums to complain en masse.

Drinkbox Studios, having a finger on the pulse actually recognized these complaints, but dealt with them in such a brilliant manner that you have to give them credit for rising above the criticism. What they did was take all their favorite complaints, and stick them into a "meme grotto" where all the comic sans, clashing colors, and salty comments could live as one in the dankest part of their game.

To address such criticism in such an open and brilliantly silly way actually ended up winning over a lot of the prior detractors, as they were now witnessing a studio willing to poke fun at themselves and the fans in equal measure.
