Okay, so this one really depends on your definition of “reward”, but getting to experience new, hilarious content definitely falls under that definition in my book. Despite the fact this feature is actually supposed to deter cheating, it was clearly placed in the game as a neat little encounter for people who attempt to game the system.

When it comes to breaking games, there are a bunch of different techniques. The most common is to change something in the back end, altering code or scripts within the games files. But it's also possible to exploit features within a game in order to make one or more of its systems inherently useless, and that's an issue that initially plagued The Witcher 3.

Players discovered that it was possible to kill cows at the beginning of the game, collect their hides and then quickly meditate, causing them to respawn. This allowed players to become extremely rich at the beginning, trivializing any challenge.

Once the game was updated, however, it included something know as the “Bovine Defence Force Initiative”. Attempting the same technique causes an insane, jacked-up cow monster to spawn, which immediately attempts to kill the player. It may deter low level players from gaming the market with cow hides, but it also provides an absolutely hilarious encounter, and is something worth breaking the balance of the market for.
