8 Video Games That Should Have Been Movies
1. We Happy Few
Before I start tearing this game apart, I am aware that a multitude of patches and expansive DLC has made We Happy Few a much more rounded affair in the gameplay department since it's launch as well as a title that boasts some clever storytelling in its add-ons, however upon launch there was only one word to describe this game.
Disappointing.
The disconnect between the outstanding setting of a pilled-up Swinging 60's Britain clashed hard with the tried and tested (read: boring) survival and stealth driver gameplay, which is such as shame as the lead-in marketing for this game had me falling in love with the style and eerie tones.
There's also a great story at play too with our hero Arthur trying to find out what happened to his brother and the world around him, and the flashes between what those see on the drug Joy versus reality could have been used to great effect in a film as it was one of the few factors that worked in the game.
It's just a shame that the actual gameplay was so worn out and frustrating that in many ways it sapped what joy the story provided, as it was so janky in places that soon it became a nightmare experience for all the wrong reasons.
