8 Video Games That Started Out Totally Different

5. DOOM

Doom Aliens
Microsoft / Sega

It doesn’t matter who you are; if you’ve played games or not, everyone has heard of Doom in some form or another.

It can’t be understated just home much of an influence this title had on the video game industry and thanks to the 2016 reboot we are still indulging in demonic demon-slaying to this day.

Ripping and tearing demons is what has really helped this one stick, but at one point the demons were almost not quite what we have now. Instead of the enemies Doom Guy is used to, he was almost up against Xenomorphs from the Alien film series. Which on first thought makes sense.

Thanks to the deal over the rights to the film licence falling through, 20th Century Fox went their own way and id reworked what they had for a new game. And if you look back at the history licenced game, John Carmack and John Romero really did luck out here.

Untethered from the Aliens franchise, they could go onto create whatever they wanted.
