8 Video Games That Took Forever To Get Good

7. Final Fantasy 13

the witcher 2
Square Enix

One of the most aggravating things about Final Fantasy 13 isn't that its central cast is about as appealing as getting a massage from Hellraiser, it's not that its story disappeared so quickly up its own arse that even Hideo Kojima raised an eyebrow or the fact that it's combat system auto-battle mechanic basically encouraged you not to play it, but in fact that, and I can't believe I'm saying this, after about 15 hours or so the game actually does start being fun!

No seriously, I rag on this game a lot, mainly based on a first disastrous playthrough back when the game was first released, but upon revisiting the game with fresh eyes, when the title finally awards the player some control, and some sidequests to dive into, it really does feel like the next-gen Final Fantasy we were all promised.

Don't get me wrong, the path to this moment in the sun is both painful and linear, with so much railroading you'll feel like you're being dragged behind the carriage at points, but when things finally open up gosh dang heck does it feel good to be finally....in a still worse than average Final Fantasy game.
