Ooooh, I can already feel the laser-like red eyes from the Fromsoft Community with this one.

"How dare you suggest that Demon's Souls is anything less than utter perfection? It was the first game that made being force-fed glass and washing it down with piping hot piss fun! Even opening the box caused me to cream my loincloth because it was that good."

Well, listen up my very strange friend. I am right there with you, I adore this franchise, and have ventured beyond Yharnam, slain the Ancient Dragon, and come back for more with all the titles respective DLC's. However, take a look at the early reviews for Demon's Souls both critically and from players, and tell me what you see.

That's right, when Demon's Souls was first released in Japan, this game bombed - so badly in fac, that Sony wanted nothing to do with it. The janky controls and the oppressive difficulty didn't find an audience, and even Western review outlets that got their hands on it weren't too favorable.

It was only months and months after its release did it find a home with gamers abroad, and its slow spread as a cult classic took even longer to reach the mainstream. It took forever to be perceived as a good game, despite having changed nothing along the way.

Therefore, it might be a little bit of a trick entry, but one that should remind us that even greats can stumble out of the gate.
