8 Video Games That Turned Out Nothing Like We Were Promised

2. Sonic the Hedgehog

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibq4-8H_IMw Don't worry: we're not talking about the original classic from '92, but the Xbox 360 "re-imagining" from 2006 that was supposed to make Sonic cool again. Unfortunately for Sega, the game was so sh*tty and riddled with bugs that it pretty much ruined the company's reputation forever - who talks about Sega with the same amount of nostalgic love that they did, say, twenty years ago? The answer is nobody, because Sega have lost their mojo, people, and that's a truth we have to come to terms with. Embarrassing when you consider how this game was first showcased. Because Sonic the Hedgehog, in its early stages, looked like it was going to be blast - Sonic was shown whizzing around like a nutcase in beautiful 3D, and there was a certain oomph to the demo footage that promised a quality game at some point in the future. Then 2006 hit, and - despite misleading advertising campaigns which still made the game look far better than it actually was - Sonic fell by the wayside like some dated relic from the '90s who couldn't get with times. The game was awkward and frustrating to play, the fun factor akin to that of jumping face first into a rock pool. And with its failure, Sega lost our trust entirely - they're yet to earn it back.
