8 Video Games Where Everyone Loses
6. The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword
The game that, in universe, started it all, The Legend of Zelda’s most mildly received 3D outing has an ending which, on the surface, is a clear victory over evil. However, when you pull your Lens of Truth back and take a look at the wider timeline, the cracks in this rosy finale start to appear.
Set hundreds of years before the events of its predecessors, Skyward Sword follows knight-in-training Link, as he follows the destiny bestowed upon him by the Goddess Hylia to stop the evil machinations of the Demon King Demise. Following a grand adventure through Hyrule, saving Zelda and forging The Master Sword, Link faces the Demon King in a one on one showdown, ultimately emerging victorious.
Being The Demon King, however, means you do have to get the last word in, and in his dying breath Demise declares that an incarnation of his hatred shall ever follow them, dooming them to wander a blood-soaked sea of darkness for all time. This incarnation, as we all know, would go on to become the series’ big bad Ganon, and would indeed eternally return to wreak havoc upon the people of Hyrule for thousands of years.
