Should've Been: The Final Gang Leader

For those of you who have never played Growl, buckle up as you're in for one wild ride.

In the copy-paste corral that became flooded with titles looking to ape the success of the likes of Double Dragon, Golden Axe and Streets of Rage, many 2-d brawlers came and went without much notice. However, Growl decided to separate itself from the pack by being absolutely and utterly insane.

For a start, the central focus of the story was on stopping evil poachers from hunting animals to extinction, and doing so as a roided up Indiana Jones and friends, and when things start with a grenade being casually thrown at you then you know you're in for a pretty intense experience.

As you smashed and whipped your way through wave after wave of goons, the mysterious leader of the group always seemed just out of reach, that is until the final stage where this strange top hat fool complete with rocket launchers aims to make your day a misery. The battle is intense, and it's fitting because the cyborg design suits a being that would hate nature in all its forms.

Which makes it all the more surprising then that when you beat this boss, a giant space worm erupts from its body and starts attacking you! Now far be it from me to suggest things were going too far, but this is basically the equivalent of letting your six-year-old write the ending to your novel.

What follows is a boss battle so strange that you'll be left with more questions than answers and Growl in typical fashion is giving you precisely none of them.

Jules Gill hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
