8 Ways Infinite Warfare Is The Beginning Of The End For Call Of Duty

7. There's Nowhere To Go But Backwards After This

Even 'Infinite Warfare' I laughed at. I mean how many pitch meetings must they have done after 'Advanced Warfare', sitting around trying to think of other words that would sound appropriate? Leave your own in the comments, but I'm going with "Space Warfare" - at least that would've allowed them to have some fun with it.

The thing is, mechanically, COD has changed so much in the last three years, that the new state of play is drastically different than anything any developer could do with an older timeline. There's no contextual equivalent to a mid-air dodge-boost or a ground-pound in World War 1/2 or Vietnam, and because of how fast COD plays regardless, your average fan is using these abilities constantly.

For every commenter yelling that 'nobody wanted this!', there'll be 10 who have such mechanics hardwired into their brain. I guarantee the reason Infinite Warfare even continues to exist, is as a reaction to the game-changing elements introduced in the last two instalments.

No developer wants to go backwards, but the sad fact for Activision and its umbrella of teams working concurrently on COD, is that might be exactly what's needed.
