8 Ways Video Games Punish You For Breaking Their Rules
6. Left 4 Dead 2
Left 4 Dead 2 introduced a new difficulty mode to the series, Realism Mode, which is designed to be extremely punishing and notoriously difficult to complete without the aid of other players.
Much like in the original Left 4 Dead however, there's a few different ways players can cheese the game to make things a little easier. One of the most common ways to cheat is to position yourself into certain places that stop the zombies from reaching you, letting you kill everything without getting touched.
Except, Left 4 Dead 2 found a way to counter players attempting to use the same exploits that were present in the previous game. If the AI Director, the AI system in Left 4 Dead 2 that alters the challenge of the game on the fly, detects that you've positioned yourself in a way that makes it impossible for you to be hit, it will spawn special infected that can reach you.
This more often than not comes in the form of a Smoker, that will use its tongue to grab you from high places, or a Spitter, which will snipe the player with corrosive acid that deals damage over time.
