8 Weirdest Enemies Cut From Video Games

3. Dung Beetle (Mother 3)

Half Life Mr Friendly
Nintendo

By using a series of exploits and mods to hack into Mother 3 on the Game Boy Advance, players discovered the existence of a battle against an unused enemy, one that goes by a collection of seemingly random names such as Dung Beetle, Tent Person, and Clayman.

This particular character has been the subject of much discussion and speculation within the Mother community, because it's not actually clear why it exists within the game at all.

Some think that it's a darker alternate version of the final battle, and a lot think that it's meant to be a warped version of protagonist Lucas' twin brother, Claus, since the model does resemble that of a small humanoid figure.

Whatever it may be, this enemy will constantly switch between several grotesque forms (with one of those aforementioned random names given to each), culminating with a large screaming face filling the screen. Hackers have also noticed a chilling breathing sound that goes along with this battle, making the whole encounter incredibly spooky.

It's not surprising this was cut, considering Mother 3 was published by the (usually) family-friendly Nintendo.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
