8 Worst Video Games Of 2020 (So Far)
8. One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows
It just shouldn't have been made into a game.
A show about a guy that trains so hard he can literally knock out intergalactic space gods with one punch? There was no way to make this anything other than a browser-based promotional tie-in at best, and yet developers Spike Chunsoft had a go anyway.
Taking the "bold" idea of removing Saitama from the game so he only turns up after a certain amount of time has elapsed, it means you're stuck playing one of the most stock fighting games in quite some time in between.
Light attacks, heavies, dodging and jumping - it doesn't help that aesthetically, this belongs on the PS2.
While you could eventually control Saitama if you hadn't won the fight before he arrived, delivering a huge knockout blow does feel super satisfying. It's just that the overall setup gets old REAL fast, and the game's "story" mode has lifeless NPCs giving you endless fetch quests.
Look, I have NO idea how, but a One Punch Man game needs to be based around playing as One Punch Man. Whether that's focused on training and battling Saitama's thoughts to "convince" him to fight, ending a sequence with those glorious air-thinning haymakers, anything would be better than this.
