9 "Hated" Video Games You Should Play In 2020
3. Call Of Duty: WWII
Flash back to 2016. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was revealed, only to receive one of the most downvoted trailers in Youtube history.
Fans and people overall seemed fed up with Activision's insistence on chasing some far-off sci-fi spin on Call of Duty, and only a few months later, Battlefield 1 was revealed, confirming DICE were instead returning to a "boots on the ground", World War setting.
Millions rejoiced and Battlefield sold a ton. However, when Activision then revealed Call of Duty: WWII one year later, it was seen entirely as "playing catchup".
Launch day woes involved insane lag and disconnects, plus straight-up tone deaf inclusions like treating Normandy Beach as a community hub with loot boxes.
WWII was dead in the water, but the reality of the game's campaign and multiplayer, is that it's the best world war-themed COD after World at War.
Despite looking absolutely stunning and contributing its own version of the Normandy landing as a campaign level, guns all felt meticulously balanced and thought out. The campaign had some really great set-piece moments - one involving a derailing train - and multiplayer did eventually get there, for those who stuck around.
