9 Bizarre Lawsuits Filed Against The Grand Theft Auto Series

3. Sued By Real Life Mob Wife Over Stealing Her Life Story

Daughter of Salvatore "Sammy the Bull" Gravano, Karen Gravano sued Rockstar last year for apparently stealing several details from her life story. According to her representatives, the character Antonia Bottino was directly inspired by Gravano, so much so that if Rockstar kept using Gravano's likeness, she would be "irreparably damaged in a manner and to an extent not compensable by money damages". That's quite a serious claim. The similarities between Gravano and Bottino are reasonably substantial, but not necessarily enough to merit any kind of legitimacy. Both women are the daughters of mobsters, and both women's fathers corroborated with the FBI in order to bring down powerful mob bosses. Besides that, both women have starred in television shows about their experiences; Gravano, the real life star of Mob Wives, and Bottino, the star of fictional television series Wise B******. Rockstar themselves have admitted to borrowing certain aspects of Gravano's life, however they've argued that life-stories aren't necessarily protected under copyright laws. Regardless as to whether or not that's true, it's a bizarre state of affairs. Let's at least hope she's not in any actual danger due of her affiliation with the character, but then she's probably made it worse for herself by publicising the whole thing in the first place.
