Fail states in video games can be incredibly irritating. Completing a level only to have the goal or final NPC interaction fail to work is usually frustrating as hell, especially when you've put the work in to overcome whatever obstacle was in your way.

The only thing more frustrating, is when it's totally your fault. But such a fate is entirely possible in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace for PC and PlayStation. In the game - which closely follows the events of the film - some characters respond very poorly to the killing of innocent civilians.

Characters you need to talk to, for example, simply won't respond, or people you're meant to be escorting in order to complete the level begin to ignore you.

The worst part is, not every NPC reacts the same to the brutal slaughtering of civilians, meaning every kill is a huge risk.
