9 Elaborate Video Game Urban Legends Everyone Believed

5. Tomb Raider - Nude Raider

The legend: Gone but not forgotten, cheat codes persist in gaming terminology thanks to their storied history as a precursor, of sorts, to other game-manipulating concepts like mods, but there's one key difference.

While the latter is fan-made, the former has traditionally been a list of mutators intentionally left by developers for players to discover or unlock through community effort.

In Tomb Raider's case, inputting one particular string of numbers would purportedly cause Lara to eschew her clothing and go about her business stark-naked. Naturally, this got audiences all flustered at the thought of searching for ancient treasures with Lara in the buff, much to Eidos' dismay.

Where it came from: Technically, it was possible to make Ms. Croft strip off in Tomb Raider, but not without an external patch and certainly not without legal implications.

Neither Eidos or Core Design ever included code in the base game that would unlock the so-called Nude Raider cheat and took steps to prevent the third-party version from spreading, namely, sending out cease and desist notices to websites hosting the patch.
