9 Famous Video Game Characters You Didn't Know Were Gay

6. Kung Jin (Mortal Kombat X)

Sexual orientation has never played a major part in the Mortal Kombat series. No one really hooks up with anyone, apart from a dry romance between Liu Kang and Kitana, and a few trysts in the background. Nevertheless, it was refreshing to see the introduction in Mortal Kombat X of Kung Jin, the first sort-of-out-of-the-closet character. The exposition is subtle at first, as a scene between Kung Jin and Raiden reveals that the lethal archer is reluctant to join a monastery of Shaolin Monks for fear of not being 'accepted', to which Raiden responds that "They care only of what is in your heart, not whom your heart desires". Possibly spurred on by Raiden's non-judgemental attitude, in the intro to their fight Kung Jin opens up more in his pre-fight dialogue with Tanya, when he rebuffs her compliment about his handsomeness by saying she's "barking up the wrong tree". Good for him!
