9 Fighting Video Game Characters With The Craziest Backstories

7. Eddy Gordo (Tekken)

Speaking for the majority of gamers who first encountered the high-flying, acrobatic style of Eddy Gordo in Tekken 3, there was never any reason to suspect that the capoeira artist's background included anything not beach-related.

Not only did Eddy's main costume appear as though it was sewn together from deflated beach balls, but the guy just oozed a certain laid-back charm that could only be acquired from a life of sipping poolside piƱa coladas in between practicing his handstands. But that's only part of the story...

Yes, Eddy was born into a very wealthy family in Brazil. But while he spent most of his life in the lap of luxury, all of that changed when he came home from school as a teenager to find his father bleeding to death on the floor. He'd been working to take down a drug cartel known only as "The Organization," and was on the cusp of putting them away for good when the cartel came to make sure that didn't happen.

With his dying words, Eddy's dad asked him not to retaliate against the cartel, or continue accumulating evidence that would help put them away, but to... take the fall for his murder. That's right, Eddy told the police that he killed his dad and was swiftly tossed in prison for a good long time.

However, that's where he learns capoeira. From an elderly man who was sentenced to life in prison.
