Rumoured for a long time before it was officially announced, The Elder Scrolls: Online promised to give fans an epic hack-and-slash experience that would allow players to explore the iconic fantasy world with their friends. Unfortunately, the launch version of the title was ridiculed for its uninspired quests, bland world and boring story that didn't justify the title's required monthly cost.

The first welcome changed, then, was ditching the monthly subscription model entirely. Realising that only a few titles - of a much higher quality than ESO - could demand a monthly payment from players, the developers dropped this requirement in favour of releasing more DLC to recoup its losses.

Thankfully, the majority of this added paid content made the MMO much more enjoyable. Even today, huge expansions are still coming out for the game, giving players the chance to revisit classic locations from the franchise like Morrowind, and adding even more quality quests, characters and settings to the already massive title.

What started off as a disappointing cash-in on a popular name has been moulded into a true Elder Scrolls experience that has kept hardcore fans appeased while Bethesda work on the next main instalment in the franchise.
