9 Flawed Video Games That Became Perfect After Release
6. Warframe
Back when the PS4 launched in 2013, most players' first port of call was Warframe. With few big releases to get through, the free-to-play shooter was an appealing prospect for people picking up the new console, but unfortunately its bland presentation and uninspired combat didn't make it an instant hit, and most players forgot about it once the big games finally started dropping.
However, in the four years since it launched, Warframe has somehow become one of the best games of the generation. The shooting is better than most triple As, boasting a wide variety of weapons to get your hands on and playstyles to test out. There's a story there if you look hard enough, too, but it's the satisfaction of the grind and the intensity of the combat that keeps players coming back for more.
Likewise, Waframe should be celebrated for doing F2P right. You can jump into the expansive shooter without spending a dime and have a rollicking good time, never feeling like the game is withholding its best content behind a paywall.
In many ways, it synergises MMO philosophies with first-person shooter design better than Destiny, for no upfront asking price and with fewer insidious microtransactions.
