1. Queen Of Cards - Final Fantasy VIII

There are few genres that revel in being a time sink more than JRPGs and the Final Fantasy series is a staple, so of course we’re hitting you with another dose of Final Fantasy side quest pain.

I’m a sucker for a card-based minigame and plenty of people adored Final Fantasy VIII’s Triple Triad, but that adoration stopped abruptly where the Queen of Cards side quest began.

The quest asks you to visit the Queen in different locations each time and trade in unique cards, in exchange for new unique ones made by her dad. But god forbid you just hand over the cards, no, you have to lose them to her in a game.

A game with rules that she’ll just arbitrarily decide on. So that can result in you losing even more cards.

The process takes ages as she’ll randomly zap to another location after each match and the new cards that are created don’t go to you, they go to NPCs spread across the game world. You’ll also want to get all of this done before disk four otherwise the cards disappear from the NPCs and you’ll have to try to get them off the flakey Queen again.

Thankfully I guess she’s started feeling bad for you as she stays put this time.
