9 Incredible Features WASTED On Disappointing Video Games
1. Flight In Combat & Exploration - Anthem
It might be interesting to know that Anthem's signature movement system - that being the ability to fly around the entire map - was actually something that was almost cut from the game. Bioware apparently toyed with not including the system at all, worried they couldn't get it to feel right and that it would negatively impact exploration.
They did eventually include the feature however, and it became one of the very best things about the live-service shooter. Taking to the skies felt weighty, but had an elegance to it and sense of speed that felt just right, with it being so much fun to fly around the world and see the sights. Unfortunately, while the devs absolutely nailed this ability (and, admittedly, combat as well), the game surrounding it didn't capitalise on such a solid mechanic.
You don't need me to tell you all the reasons why Anthem was disappointing, as while the core gameplay itself was enjoyable enough, the missions, customisation and story left a whole lot to be desired.
Bioware fulfilled players' dreams of being an Iron Man-like hero, but it's a shame that excitement only lasts about 20 minutes.
