9 Insane Origins Of Gaming's Most Over-Sexualised Female Characters
5. Bloodrayne - Bloodrayne
The character of Rayne herself was at the forefront of being oversexed to the point of parody in the 2000s - eventually being involved in a Playboy shoot, because why not.
A gothic dominatrix with a penchant for corsets and arm blades, Rayne was built to be a fairly stereotypical, alternative 'gothic vamp chick', however voice actor Laura Bailey mentioned that when she was given any new dialogue, " nasty enough to cause to blush while saying the lines" it was deemed worthy of inclusion.
Interestingly, the character never completely gave in to that throwaway, 'sexy for the sake of sexy' mentality, and was given a warrior-like attitude to serve in making her a symbol of female empowerment. Many of the team working on the character noted that whilst she was clearly aimed at a younger male demographic, there was a cross appeal present, in much the same way as Lara Croft.
Majesco's Liz Buckley said it best with "T&A will only get you so far", and although you can definitely say Rayne's appearance is her defining factor, at least attempt was made to flesh her out into something more.
