9 Landmark Fan Outrages That Changed Expensive Video Games
8. Bungie Erasing Peter Dinklage From All Of Destiny
Of all the things dragging the first Destiny down - the lack of content, repetitive mission structures and thunderously boring presentation - one of the most hilarious was Peter Dinklage's role as Ghost. Supposed to be our window into a world of intergalactic originality, the Dinklebot had many now-infamous flat-reads as "That wizard came from the moon" and "We've woken the hive!", the latter feeling half-asleep, despite all hell breaking loose.
All-round he was abysmal, possibly because Dinklage had never done a game of this calibre before - or perhaps because Destiny's maudlin attitude meant the atmosphere on set wasn't exactly the most "inspirational".
Either way, Dinklage remained despite countless fans stating he was the worst thing about the game's stilted introduction, culminating in Bungie not only replacing him going forward with Nolan North, but retconning all past cutscenes so the original recordings were no longer present.
Bungie stated the decision was made because of Dinklage's other commitments to Hollywood and or/Game of Thrones, but considering the mountain of hate they were trying to surmount, I'd wager the cultural backlash had a rather large amount to do with that as well.
